Western National Parks

Join us on this special itinerary for our Western National Parks tour. This special itinerary will visit Colorado, Utah and Arizona. We will visit iconic places in Colorado such as Boulder, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Glenwood Springs and the famous Maroon Belles. In Utah we will see the Utah 5. Arches, Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef and Escalante Grand Staircase National Parks, as well as a few state parks that you haven’t heard of. In Arizona we will of course go to the Grand Canyon. As always with Journey West we take the road less traveled and will be visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, with more canyons and colors and less people we think it is the best rim. Join us on this beautiful scenic Western National Parks Tour.

Day 1 – Fly into Denver International Airport by noon and meet your tour director at baggage claim.  Tour Denver & Golden on your way to the Rocky Mountain Foothills.  Evening is on your own to explore the historic town.
Day 2breakfast – We are “heading for the hills” or should I say mountains.  We will travel through Boulder and make a stop at scenic Estes Park for a bit of shopping before we travel over the awesome Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved highway in North America.  Along with fantastic mountain scenery, we will be looking for the elk, big horn sheep and moose that call this park home.  After a lunch stop, on your own, in Grand Lake we proceed through more mountains to Glenwood Canyon where the highway is on the National Register of Civil Engineering Landmarks and the scenery has been labeled the most scenic section on our interstate highway system.  At the end of the Canyon is Glenwood Hot Springs, the world’s largest outdoor hot spring pool- a great place to spend the evening.
Day 3breakfast, dinner – Our day begins with the sun hitting the 14,000 foot summits of Maroon Bells.  These peaks are one of the most photographed sights in the US. We will follow the Colorado River to our lunch stop, in Grand Junction, CO, in the heart of Colorado’s wine country.  Crossing into Utah, we will take the road less traveled through the Colorado River Canyon and many photo stops along the way to Moab.  Tonight we have a Dutch Oven dinner before we travel back up river in a barge to see the widely acclaimed Canyonlands by Night, a light and sound show. Next two nights in Moab.
Day 4 – breakfast, lunch – Arches National Park is our first stop this morning. A wonder of nature, you will have time for a short hike to one of the red rock arches.  We will have lunch and a jet boat ride down the Colorado River this afternoon before an evening on your own to explore Moab. It might be a great time for a dip in the hotel pool.
Day 5 – breakfast, lunch – Today the scenery will be fantastic as we continue along the roads less traveled to Goblin Valley State Park, Escalante/Grand Staircase Nat’l Park, Anazasi State Park, and on to Bryce Canyon Nat’l Park. We will picnic in Capitol Reef National Park along the way. We spend the night at Bryce, UT.
Day 6 – breakfast – Early this morning you can opt for a Helicopter ride over Bryce Canyon before we head out for our tour of this most amazing National Park. After a lunch stop, on your own, we will continue to Zion National Park and the town of Springdale where we will spend the next two nights. Evening is on your own to enjoy this beautiful area and the amenities of our hotel.
Day 7 – breakfast – Today we will visit one of the natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon, North Rim-the quiet rim.  You will have time to take a walk along the rim and we will see overlooks.  Lunch is on your own, overlooking this wonder.  Then we head back for Zion with stops along the way. Evening on your own.
Day 8breakfast – Leaving Southern Utah, we head North toward our last night in Salt Lake City. There are stops along the way such as Cove Fort and a tour of Salt Lake City.  Our Farewell dinner is in SLC where we can share memories of our Journey West.
Day 9 – breakfast – Your tour director will let you know your departure time as you head for your home sweet home. That is of course if you are not going on to see more of the wonders of the west on the Wonderful West Tour which begins today with the arrival of your fellow travelers (you would get today for a day of rest)  The two tours together will last 17 days total and encompass nine national parks & monuments and some of the most beautiful scenery in the World!!
