The title of this tour could be, “Christmas in Austin, Texas Hill Country, Texas Cultures and San Antonio.” That, however, does not fit very well on a brochure. But the fun does fit into this prelude to your holidays. You will be treated to cultures, history, food, entertainment and fun as we investigate this part of the Lone Star State. Once part of Spain, Mexico and an independent nation, this area was settled with many immigrants from the US, Germany, Spain and Mexico. Combining these diverse groups has led to an eclectic population. We will get to know them through our adventures and also have a great start to our holiday season. Your friends and family will love the gifts that you get for them in the distinctive shops and stores.

DAY 1 – Fly to Austin, Texas. When we are all together, we will depart for our tour of Austin. After a brief stop at our hotel, we will be off to Johnson City for dinner, on your own, and the beautiful Christmas lights on display in this Texas Hill Country town, founded by President Lyndon Johnson’s family.
DAY 2 – breakfast, dinner – We will depart this morning for the Lyndon B Johnson Ranch, in the Texas Hill Country. After a tour of this sprawling ranch and the Texas White House, we head to Fredericksburg. German heritage mixes with Western and Hispanic culture to create the unique traditions of this part of Texas. In Fredericksburg, we will visit the National Museum of the Pacific War, a moving and insightful look at this important part of World history. (Gen. Nimitz was a native son). There are lots of great shops and restaurants to keep you busy for the rest of our time here. This evening we watch the delightful Light the Night Christmas Parade from our reserved bleacher seats and After Glow, as well as Fredericksburg’s First Friday Art Walk. There will be street vendors, food, and crafts along the main street. Before we find our seats for the parade, we will have dinner, included, in one of the local restaurants.
DAY 3 – breakfast, light dinner – Enjoy the morning with some shopping or museums or simply relaxing. When we depart Fredricksburg we will continue seeing the sights of the Texas Hill Country on our way to San Antonio. This area has a lot of history and fun to enjoy. We will take an orientation tour of the neighborhood where we spend our next 3 nights when we arrive in San Antonio and then check into our Riverwalk hotel. The hotel has a complimentary cocktail hour and light supper or you can enjoy one of the nearby local restaurants along the Riverwalk. If you like, you could attend Saturday mass at the historic San Fernando de Bexar Cathedral or enjoy Cathedral Square.
DAY 4 – breakfast, lunch, dinner – We head out for a wonderful day getting to know San Antonio. We’ll see the IMAX presentation of the Battle of the Alamo, the actual Alamo, one of the many missions in the San Antonio Missions National Park and many of the culturally diverse neighborhoods of this fantastic city. Lunch will be included at the Historic Guenther House. After our formal tour we will catch some of the holiday activities in the area. You will have the evening free to enjoy the Holiday Lights and music along the River Walk and you can use your river taxi pass. You might even catch some Mariachi music along the way or at one of the stages along the Riverwalk.
DAY 5 – breakfast, dinner – We will visit the Institute of Texas Cultures this morning as well as other sites, This afternoon you have free time to do some Christmas shopping, see one of the many museums nearby or walk or cruise the Riverwalk before we go to our Farewell Dinner, along the San Antonio River in the glow of all of the millions of holiday lights and luminarias
Day 6 – breakfast – We say “Hasta la vista” to our San Antonio Christmas and head back home to prepare for our own holiday celebrations with family and friends. Your tour director will arrange your departure times. From your JOURNEY WEST family we wish you all… FELIZ NAVIDAD Y PROSPERO AÑO NUEVO
